Distraction causes driver to collide with parked cars

A man fumbling for some items in his car steered his vehicle into two cars parked on the south side of Charles Street Wednesday autel auto scanner, causing him to suffer severe enough injuries that he was transported to St. Francis Medical Center.

The Grand Island Police accident report said that Harold Carey, 67, of 221 1/2 E. Fourth St., was driving westbound on Charles when he reached for some items in his 1997 Cadillac El Dorado, causing his attention to be diverted long enough that his vehicle hit a parked 2005 Toyota RAV4, pushing it on top of a 1997 Honda Accord.

The accident report said both vehicles were parked at 507 W. Charles St. and are owned by Juan Perez, who lives at 507 W. Charles. The accident report said that Carey was not wearing a seat belt and it said that he reported that he might have blacked out briefly after the accident TPMS service tool. As a result, Carey was transported to the hospital, where it was reported that he was treated and released.
